Shapes, volumes, colors, contamination and matter that come alive and reveal their souls. The Carnival of Viareggio is always seeking new languages and expressive means to amaze the public. Just like art, which is never identical to itself and which is constantly evolving.

This is the reason why these two worlds - that of paper-mâché and that of contemporary art - have met and have formed a perfect union in Viareggio. Since 1987, through the Carnevalotto collection they have forged a strong, unique, striking and unrepeatable bond.

An institution that has been strongly supported by Fondazione Carnevale and by the Studio Saudino, that every year is enriched by the contribution of a prestigious artist chosen among the most important ones of our times.

The Carnevalotto Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the Citadel and houses the collection of Carnevalotto Prizes; precious art objects symbolizing each edition and ideally a tribute to the winning float. Artworks that actually become part of the cultural heritage of the Carnevale di Viareggio and of the city.
