The Carnevalotto Collection is located in an exhibition space at the Lorenzo Viani Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery. It collects the works of the Carnevalotto Award, created by various artists and inspired by the Viareggio Carnival.
Born in 1987 from an idea by Giuliana Saudino and Franco Bendinelli (Studio Saudino) and established by the Fondazione Carnevale, the Carnevalotto Award brings together many artists who have witnessed their interpretation of that upside down, fleeting and ephemeral world, which characterizes the Carnival. For almost three decades, between 1987 and 2018, the Carnevalotto Award was an ideal artistic tribute to the winning floats of the Viareggio Carnival.
The main artists who participated in the award and whose works are exhibited in the Collection are: Giò Pomodoro, Sebastian Matta, Pietro Cascella, Piero Dorazio, Gianni Dova, Concetto Pozzati, Emilio Tadini, Bruno Ceccobelli, Igor Mitoraj, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Joe Tilson, Hisiao Chin, Ugo Nespolo, Luca Alinari, Antonio Possenti, Medath Shafik, Giosetta Fioroni, Walter Valentini, Arturo Carmassi, Aldo Spoldi, Alessandro Mendini, Gianfranco Pardi, Emilio Isgrò, Giuseppe Maraniello, Bruno Di Bello, Lorenzo D’Andrea, Riccardo Gusmaroli and Massimo Kaufmann.
